NUML SDGs SCOUTS VISIT TO QUAID-I-AZAM UNIVERSITY, ISLAMABAD

INTRODUCTION:

NUML SDGs SCOUTS group 1, under the supervision of Dr. Athar Rashid, visited the department of Public Administration at Quaid-i-Azam University on November 02, 2022. This group covered the following SDGs:

  • SDG-1, No Poverty

  • SDG-2, Zero Hunger

  • SDG-3, Good Health & Well-being

  • SDG-4, Good Quality Education

  • SDG-5, Gender Equality & Women's Empowerment

OBJECTIVES:

The following were the aims of our Campaign:

  • Spreading awareness regarding sustainable development goals among the students.

  • Educating them about the 2030 Agenda and its importance.

  • Initiating a constructive interactive session by answering their queries.

  • Make them learn about sdg1-5, their indicators, and how we can overcome the challenges.

  • Making them aware of their responsibilities as national citizens.

AWARENESS WALK:

First, we took the permission letter from our respective department. We contacted the authorities of the concerned university, asking for permission to conduct an awareness walk on their premises. Eventually, they gave us the approval to organize our activities.

We conducted a very successful awareness walk at Quaid-i-Azam university regarding sustainability and the concept of Sustainable Development Goals. Specifically, we met with the students of Public Administration. Only a few of them were aware of the SDGs and sustainability.

We started our awareness session with the introduction of Sustainable Development Goals and the idea of sustainability. SDGs previously referred to as MDGs, are Millenium Development Goals. SDGs were adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015. Pakistan was one of the first few countries which had accepted the 2030 agenda, but there is a lot to be done further.

After giving the students a detailed insight into Sustainable Development, we finally educated them about our concerned SDGs, starting from No Poverty to Gender Equality.

INTERACTION WITH STUDENTS:

In the end, we interacted with the students through constructive Question Answer sessions. The students also shared their points of view regarding the management of Sustainable Development Goals.

We also provided them with booklets containing information regarding SDGs. Moreover, we distributed brochures and pamphlets among the students.

OUTCOMES:

We concluded the walk by educating almost 30 students from the Department of Public Administration. They all were very contented to play their part in achieving SDGs by 2030. Overall, they were very responsive and attentive while we were conducting the sessions. They also acknowledged our efforts being students of PA.

We believe now is the time we all should pay attention to Agenda 2030 by achieving sustainability in social, economic, and environmental areas. Progress in this regard can be achieved if we all work together for the betterment of our region because UNITED, WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL. Also, we, as youth ambassadors, can play a significant role in bringing stability to our respective fields. We believe:

The future promise of any nation can be directly measured by the present prospects of its youth.

Thank You.
