INTRODUCTION
The sustainable development goals adopted by all united nation member countries in 2015, provide a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. These SDGs are also known as the “2030 Agenda”
We are “SDG SCOUTS” for the Department of Governance and Public Policy at the National University of modern languages Islamabad. We are working on SDGs under the supervision of Assistant professor Dr. Athar Rashid.
We are a Group of Ten students (Syed Karam, Irfan Ali, Wareesha, Usman Zafar, Arfat Basharat, Sabahat Hayat, Maria, Sharafat Din, Shiza Farukh, Haseeb Saleem) And our main focus is on SDGs 1 to 5.
Our Aim is to Aware, Educate and Train People About These SDGs and their importance in our daily life and for future generations too. We believe that it is everyone’s responsibility to play their role in achieving these Sustainability Goals to save this world.
Initiatives by SDG scouts For Awareness:
To spread awareness about SDGs we have decided to visit institutions in Islamabad and Rawalpindi because 64% of the population of Pakistan is youth.
We visited the Capital University of Science and Technology Islamabad (CUST) with an official permission letter from NUML Islamabad to conduct an awareness session regarding SDGs. The administration of CUST welcomed us and allowed us to conduct a session. CUST university is one of the universities in Pakistan that are working on SDGs actively, so it was a great opportunity for Our team to interact with them. The administration of CUST university provided us with a Session Hall with 55 students and 4 faculty members.
Before starting the presentation, our group members introduced themselves to the students and we shared the aims and objectives of the session. Then we started the session, this session was about 1 and a half hours and include a Question and answer session. The students asked questions and we answered them according to our knowledge and capacity. We noticed that students were very curious to know more about SDGs and their Importance.
Ambassadors to NUML SDG’S Scouts:
Our vision is to continue this awareness process, so we have selected some SDGs ambassadors among students and teachers. They are the representatives of SDGs Scouts in their respective universities. Their purpose is to spread awareness regarding Sustainable Development Goals and to expand the working of SDGs Scouts in their respective institution.
Board Meeting
After the session, NUML SDG Scouts met with the board members of SDGs CUST university Islamabad and conducted a discussion session regarding SDGs achievements of CUST university in the Past Three years and their Ongoing social action projects regarding SDGs.
Conclusion:
As NUML SDG’S Scouts, we help students get an in-depth understanding of the sustainable development goals of agenda 2030. Through presentations, awareness walks, and other activities NUML SDG’S Scouts made an impact by playing their role in spreading awareness and teaching the students about United Nations sustainable development goals.
