Team Environmental Parliament at NUML called on Minister of State for Climate Change, Madam Zartaj Gul, Wazeer on 29th of December. Firstly, the team briefed the honorable Minister regarding their Social Action Project. The Minister took keen interest in our initiative. The team discussed with the minister about rapid climate change, contributing factors for climate change. Moreover, it was also discussed that how the climate change effects the environment.
We also discussed the challenges of climate change that includes, increased monsoon variability, the expected influence of receding Himalayan glaciers on the Indus River system, decreasing reservoir capacity, reduced electricity during drought years, and extreme occurrences such as floods and droughts are among Pakistan's climate change concerns. Also, Pakistan is projected to have far-reaching consequences on the country's ecology and people. Pakistan's climate has become increasingly variable in recent decades as a result of ongoing climate change, and this trend is anticipated to continue in the future.
Temperatures are rising, droughts and wildfires are becoming more common, rainfall patterns are shifting, glaciers and snow are melting, and the global mean sea level is rising as a result of climate change.
At the end of our discussion Madam Zartaj Gul really appreciated our work and efforts and she also gave us the suggestion to plant trees and suggested us to cooperate with the 10 billion trees tsunami.
